1001 Actions for Dialogue

‘1001 Actions for Dialogue’ is a major international campaign which sets out to create a mass mobilization of people and actions across thirty seven countries, all focused on the aim to know the ‘other’.

Official Logo European Year of Intercultural DialogueThe ‘1001 Actions’ campaign is being launched by the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation countdown to 2008, the EU Year of Intercultural Dialogue, and builds on the Foundation’s unique role as a network of thirty seven national networks of diverse civil society organizations.

Actions developed under the banner of the ‘1001′ campaign will be diverse, both in terms of size and thematic, but will all focus on the promotion of dialogue and the aim to know the ‘other’.

In order to maximize the visibility of this collective transnational action, the majority of actions will take place in the same designated period at the start of May 2008.

The culmination will be ‘Dialogue Night’, a high profile event held in synchronization across thirty-seven countries, where participants in the campaign will celebrate their collective action.
In preparation of the ‘1001 Actions’ campaign, you could begin planning an action or activity to take place in May 2008. Actions could be small or large, could take place in more than one country or uniquely in your local community, could last one day or more.

Actions which receive the visibility label of ‘1001 Actions’ would:

* promote dialogue between people
* promote knowledge and respect for communities and groups other than your own
* be concrete and manageable
* involve members of the local community, preferably
* including those who have never participated in such activity
* take place at the start of May 2008
