Keynote: Arts versus
Economics
by Rose Fenton, former artistic
director of LIFT (London’s International Festival of Theatre).
Has not
our entire culture become festivalised, increasingly run by “destination
marketing” or regeneration agencies? How can we be true to their original
spirit? What is the place of Festivals today? What is their role at a local,
national and international level and what strategies might we employ to fully
realize this role? These are all questions that will be raised during this
Keynote by Rose Fenton.
Rose Fenton strongly advocates that it is vital
that festivals are led by the artistic vision. Then all else can
follow.

Paul Gudgin has run the
organization for the past eight years during which the festival passed some
impressive milestones. In his keynote he reveals how to handle grow spurts when
you are experiencing exponential growth in your festival.
